FAQ'S - Booking and your first visit
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book chiropractic, physiotherapy or sports massage directly, online or by phone.
What happens at my first appointment?
We'll ask about the problem, your health and what you want to get back to, then look at how you move. We'll explain what we think is going on in plain English, and treatment usually starts the same day if it's right for you.
How long are appointments?
Chiropractic: 60 minutes for your first visit, then 20 to 30 minutes. Physiotherapy: 60 minutes, then 45. Sports massage: 75 minutes for your first visit, then 30, 60 or 90.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothes you can move in. Shorts help if it's your hip, knee or ankle. Depending on the area, we may ask you to adjust or remove some clothing, and we'll always explain why first.
Which treatment should I book?
It comes down to the style of treatment you'd prefer, and whoever you see will tell you if another would suit you better. Compare chiropractic, physiotherapy and sports massage side by side.
Which clinic should I book?
Chiropractic and sports massage run at Heaton, Whitley Bay and Dipton. Physiotherapy and dual sessions are at our Heaton clinic.
What if you can't help me?
If we assess you and don't think we can help, you don't pay for that appointment, and we'll point you to someone who can.
FAQ'S - Treatment and aftercare
Is treatment painful?
Most chiropractic, physiotherapy and sports massage techniques are not painful. You may feel some discomfort in tight or injured areas, but we work to your comfort and adjust as we go.
Will I feel sore afterwards?
Some mild soreness is normal, especially after deeper work. It usually passes within a day or two.
What should I do after a massage?
Drink plenty of water, avoid hard exercise for a few hours, and give your body time to rest.
How often will I need to come?
It depends on what's going on and what you want to get back to. We'll suggest a plan at your first visit and review it as you go. Once you're back on track, some people like a check-in every few weeks.
Can I combine treatments?
Yes. Many people have chiropractic or physiotherapy alongside sports massage as part of the same plan. At Heaton you can have two treatments back to back in one visit as a dual session.
FAQ'S - Chiropractic
What can chiropractic help with?
We see a lot of back pain, neck pain, stiff joints, sciatica and headaches that start in the neck. If it's not something we can help with, we'll say so and point you to someone who can.
Is chiropractic safe?
Chiropractic care is generally safe when it's carried out by a registered chiropractor. Every chiropractor in the UK must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. We'll talk you through any risks before we treat you.
Will I be 'cracked'?
Not necessarily. Your treatment is planned around you, and may include gentle mobilisation, soft tissue work, or manipulation where it suits you.
Can children or older adults see a chiropractor?
Yes. We adapt treatment to your age and comfort level.
FAQ'S - Physiotherapy at Heaton
When can I come in?
Physiotherapy runs on weekday evenings at our Heaton clinic. You'll see the times available when you book online.
Is it just exercises?
No. Every appointment includes hands-on treatment as well as exercises, and we explain why each one matters.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on the problem. We'll give you a rough idea at your first appointment and review it as you go.
Is your physiotherapist registered?
Yes. Our physiotherapist is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council, registration number PH146890. You can check the register on the HCPC website.
Can I book sports massage with the physio?
Yes. Our physiotherapist also offers sports massage at Heaton.
FAQ'S - Sports massage
Do I need to be an athlete?
Not at all. Lots of people come to us with tight, achy muscles from desk work, a physical job or everyday life.
Can sports massage help me relax?
Many people find massage relaxing, and it can ease tension in tight muscles.
Is sports massage suitable during pregnancy?
It can be adapted during pregnancy. Please let us know when you book so we can plan your session.
How long is a session?
Your first visit is 75 minutes. After that you can book 30, 60 or 90 minutes.
